Frequently asked questions
Does the app work offline?
Yes. Core features including phrases, text-to-speech and favourites work without internet. Smart Voice is designed to process nearby speech and context-aware choices on supported devices.
Does the app record my conversations?
The microphone is used to transcribe nearby speech for Smart Voice. Core communication and Smart Voice processing are designed to occur on the device. See our Privacy Policy for feature-specific storage, permissions and optional sharing.
Is Ryan's Voice suitable for children?
Ryan's Voice may be considered for younger people and adults who cannot rely on speech alone and can use its current touch interface. Suitability depends on language, access method, communication preferences, environment and support needs.
What's included, and what is Smart Voice?

The phrase pages with more than 1,000 ready-to-use phrases, typing, My Phrases, the Symbol board and Quick SOS, with text-to-speech and large tap tiles. It is not time-limited.
Smart Voice — monthly or yearly, from version 3.2
Conversation in real time: the app listens to the people you talk with and offers reply choices as they speak, plus Say More and Start Talking. Speech recognition happens on the device, and nothing is said until the person chooses. The App Store shows the current price for your storefront.
Is Smart Voice a subscription?
From version 3.2, Smart Voice is a monthly or yearly auto-renewing subscription, managed by Apple. Smart Voice Lifetime is no longer sold from 3.2; if you bought it, it stays yours. Current local prices, and any introductory offer, are shown in the app and on the App Store.
I downloaded Ryan's Voice before version 3.2. Do I lose anything?
No. If you first downloaded Ryan's Voice before version 3.2, you keep tap-to-listen replies, Start Talking and Say More, as before.
Is Quick SOS part of Smart Voice?
No. Quick SOS, including its follow-up replies about pain or sickness, is included for everyone and does not need Smart Voice.
What devices are supported?
iPhone and iPad running iOS/iPadOS 18.0 or later.
How is my data protected?
Core communication and Smart Voice processing are designed to occur on the device, and no Rockshore account is required. See our Privacy Policy for local storage, Apple services and optional sharing.
