Ryan's Voice — AAC Communication App · Last updated: 5 August 2026
The short version: Ryan's Voice processes all speech and AI intelligence entirely on your device. Nothing is transmitted to Rockshore servers, third parties, advertisers, or analytics services. To make the app work, some data is stored locally on your device — your phrase library, usage patterns, and (optionally) SLP session logs. That data stays on your device.
1. About Ryan's Voice
Ryan's Voice is an augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) app designed for individuals with apraxia of speech. It provides text-to-speech, phrase management, conversation listening, and AI-powered phrase suggestions to enable real-time communication.
2. What Stays Off Our Servers
Ryan's Voice processes everything on your device. Nothing on the following list is ever transmitted to Rockshore servers, third parties, advertisers, or analytics services:
- Microphone audio — used for on-device speech recognition only. Audio is never recorded, stored, or transmitted.
- Speech recognition transcripts — processed in real-time on-device using Apple's Speech framework. Transcripts are held in memory only and cleared each session.
- AI phrase suggestions — generated by Apple's on-device Foundation Models. No data is sent to any cloud AI service.
3. What Is Stored On Your Device
To make the app work and to improve over time, some data is stored locally on your iPad or iPhone. This data never leaves your device.
- Phrase library — all default phrases plus any custom phrases you save.
- Conversation memory — phrase usage patterns (which phrases you used, in which topic). Capped at 2,000 entries. An entry expires after 90 days without use — using a phrase again resets its clock; when the cap is reached the oldest entries are pruned first.
- Personal vocabulary pack — words and terms you confirm during the staging-and-promotion review flow accumulate in your personal pack on your device.
- App settings — your preferred voice, speech rate, theme, and other preferences.
- Optional SLP session log — when enabled, the app records which phrases you used during a flagged speech-language pathology session, so your SLP can review them with you. The log is stored on your device only. You can disable, view, or delete the log at any time in Settings → Privacy.
4. On-Device Processing
The following features use device hardware but do not transmit any data:
- Microphone — listens to ambient conversation to suggest relevant phrases. Audio is processed in real-time and immediately discarded.
- Speech Recognition — Apple's SFSpeechRecognizer converts speech to text on-device for phrase matching and topic detection.
- Text-to-Speech — AVSpeechSynthesizer speaks phrases aloud using on-device voices.
- Semantic Embeddings — Apple's NLEmbedding computes phrase similarity on-device for intelligent suggestions.
5. Purchases and Subscriptions
Ryan's Voice offers optional Smart Voice in-app purchases: a one-time lifetime unlock and monthly access. Purchases are managed entirely through Apple's App Store. Rockshore Technologies does not process or have access to payment information.
6. Analytics and Tracking (In the App)
Ryan's Voice does not include any third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking frameworks. We do not use:
- Google Analytics, Firebase, or any analytics SDK
- Advertising identifiers (IDFA)
- User tracking or fingerprinting
- Crash reporting services that transmit data externally
7. Data Retention
- On-device data (phrases, conversation memory, personal vocabulary pack, settings) persists until you delete the app or clear data manually.
- Conversation memory entries expire after 90 days of disuse (re-use resets the clock); the store is capped at 2,000 entries, with the oldest pruned first.
- Optional SLP session log entries persist on your device until you disable, view-and-clear, or delete them in Settings → Privacy. Deleting the app removes them permanently.
8. Children's Privacy
Ryan's Voice does not transmit personal information from children to Rockshore servers, advertisers, or any third party. The app is designed as an assistive communication tool and does not require account creation or personal data entry. Local data — including the optional SLP session log — remains on the user's device under the control of the user, parent, or carer who installed the app.
9. Your Rights
Since Ryan's Voice stores all data locally on your device:
- Access: All your data is on your device — you have full access at all times.
- Deletion: Delete the app to remove all local data. Disable or clear the SLP session log in Settings → Privacy.
- Portability: Your data is stored in standard formats on your device.
10. This Website
The app collects nothing; this website collects only what you choose to give it:
- Feedback form — if you submit the feedback form, we receive exactly what you type (your role, your comments, and your email if you choose to leave one). Submissions are used solely to improve Ryan's Voice and to reply to you if you asked for a reply. They are never sold, shared, or used for advertising.
- Waitlist and updates — if you join the Author Voice waitlist or tick the updates box, your email is stored with our email provider (Brevo) and used only for the updates you asked for. Every email includes an unsubscribe link; unsubscribing removes you from the list.
- Hosting logs — our hosting provider (Netlify) keeps standard, short-lived server logs for security and reliability. We do not use advertising trackers or cross-site cookies on this website.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
